Website Checker / Outdated components
Outdated website components: PHP, jQuery and other old software
Software the site shows to the outside world: the server (Apache, nginx), the programming language (PHP) and scripts such as jQuery or Bootstrap — and whether their support has ended.
What the colours mean
- OK. No outdated components are visible, or the versions are hidden — which is good practice.
- Needs attention. Some components are old but still supported, or the server announces its versions to everyone.
- Problem. At least one component no longer receives security fixes.
Why it matters for your business
- Unsupported components keep their known security holes forever.
- Old PHP versions are also slower and block updates of the platform itself.
- Announcing versions helps attackers pick a ready-made exploit.
What you can do yourself
- Ask your hosting provider to switch the site to a supported PHP version (test on a copy first).
- Ask your developer to update jQuery and other libraries.
- Hide versions in the server settings (ServerTokens Prod, server_tokens off, expose_php = Off).
What OLBO can do
Technical website audit — from €490, 2 working days: a report with exact instructions for your developer.
When the platform itself is old, patching costs more every year. A new site on a current platform fixes this indicator together with speed, security and accessibility.
Common doubts
Can't we just update PHP?
Often yes — but old plugins and themes may break, so test the update on a copy of the site first.
Is old jQuery really dangerous?
Old versions have published vulnerabilities. How risky they are depends on how your site uses them — a technical audit tells you.
