Website Checker / Look-alike domains

Look-alike domains: similar addresses used for fraud

We build up to 60 addresses similar to yours — a missing, doubled or swapped letter, a neighbouring key, “0” instead of “o”, your name in other domain zones — and check in DNS which ones are registered. For registered ones we check whether they lead to your site and whether they can receive email.

What the colours mean

  • OK. No one-letter look-alikes are in someone else’s hands.
  • Needs attention. Someone holds an address that differs from yours by one letter.
  • Problem. Several such addresses exist, or they can send and receive email.

Why it matters for your business

  • A look-alike address makes it easy to copy your site and collect your customers’ payments or data.
  • Fake invoices in your name are sent from addresses that differ by one letter.
  • A deceived customer blames you, not the fraudster.

What you can do yourself

  • Check the owner of each address found via WHOIS.
  • Register the most obvious variants yourself and point them at your main site.
  • Tell customers which website and email address are the only real ones — on the site and on invoices.

What OLBO can do

Domain, DNS and email — from €150: we register and set up protective domains that lead to your site and protect your email from spoofing (SPF, DKIM, DMARC).

Common doubts

Maybe it is just another company with the same name?

Often, yes — especially in other domain zones. That is why we show separately the addresses that differ from yours by one character: those are registered precisely so that people make a mistake.

Should we buy all similar domains?

No. Registering a few of the most obvious ones (your name in .com, “0” instead of “o”) and pointing them at your site is enough.
