Russian services check: analytics, maps, email and hosting

Whether the site uses services of companies under Ukrainian sanctions (Yandex, Mail.ru, VKontakte, Odnoklassniki) or other Russian counters, whether it loads files from .ru, .su and .рф domains, whether email and DNS run through Russian servers, whether the server network is in Russia, and whether the domain is in a Russian zone.

What the colours mean

  • OK. No Russian services, servers or domains found.
  • Needs attention. Some traces: files from Russian domains, DNS in Russia, or a server in Belarus.
  • Problem. Sanctioned services run on the site, email goes through Russia, or the server is in Russia.

Why it matters for your business

  • Your customers’ data reaches companies that Russian law obliges to hand data to the security services.
  • For Ukrainian and EU partners, customers and grant makers, a Russian trace on the site is a reputation issue.
  • Sanctioned services may be blocked for some of your visitors, so maps stay empty and analytics is wrong.

What you can do yourself

  • Replace Yandex Metrica with Google Analytics or Plausible, Yandex Maps with Google Maps or OpenStreetMap.
  • Move email from Yandex or Mail.ru to Google Workspace, Microsoft 365 or a European provider.
  • Move DNS to your registrar or Cloudflare.

What OLBO can do

Common doubts

Yandex Metrica just counts visitors.

Yes — and sends data about every visitor to a company under Ukrainian sanctions, which Russian law obliges to share data with the security services.

Why don’t you list all “Russian” website builders?

Because we check only facts we can show: script addresses, mail and DNS servers, the server network’s country, the domain zone and the page language. We do not judge rumours or founders’ origins.
